Sim Carnations

Sim Carnations

Sim carnations are an elegant and refined flower that evokes images of quaint English cottage gardens. The carnation is one of the most popular cut flowers and in most countries, symbolises maternal love. The title ‘Sim’ means that the carnation has only one flower per stem, as opposed to multiple which are known as ‘Spray’ carnations. Available in a staggering variety of colours, you can find carnations saturated in the vibrant hues of cream, white, orange, yellow, pink, red, purple, and more recently, blue.

The scientific name for the carnation is Dianthus, which means ‘flower of God’. Each variety of carnation has a certain meaning, but overall the flower represents love, fascination, distinction and a mother’s love. A pink carnation symbolises maternal love, while a light red carnation denotes admiration. A dark red carnation signifies deep love and affection, and a white carnation expresses pure love. These meanings are part of the reason why the carnation has become so popular, as it conveys an important message within its petals.

Carnations are also an incredibly long lasting cut flower, which makes them a perfect addition for a bouquet or boxed arrangement.
