Alstromeria

Alstromeria

Alstromeria is one of the floristry’s best kept secrets. A beautiful filler flower, this vibrant bloom is often referred to as the ‘Peruvian Lily’ and hails from South America. You’ll find alstromeria in many of our floral designs because it makes the perfect accompaniment to the more showy blooms like roses, gerberas and lilies. Traditionally, the alstromeria symbolises wealth, prosperity and fortune. It is also renowned as being the flower of friendship.

These lily-like blooms come in a variety of vibrant colours, including creamy white, sunshine yellow, blush apricot, vibrant pink, fiery red, velvet purple and pastel lavender. The petals have an array of markings with some displaying stripes. Another reason why the alstromeria is so popular as a cut flower is due to the fact that it has such a long vase life- a cut alstromeria will last for 2 weeks in a vase if cared for properly. Additionally, the alstromeria has no scent, which makes it a perfect flower for those with allergies.

At 1300 FLOWERS we have designed gorgeous bouquets, baskets and boxed arrangements brimming with fresh flowers. You’ll find we have incorporated the humble alstromeria in many of our gifts, with one of the most popular being the Sarah.
